Heathers the Musical returns to its original London home at The Other Palace, opening on 25 November 2021, for a season until 20 February 2022.
Produced by Bill Kenwright and Paul Taylor-Mills, the musical started its UK journey with a cult following and was a box office record-breaker at The Other Palace in 2018, before transferring to the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a limited season later that year. The production then returned to the Haymarket and played a hugely successful summer season this year, kick-starting the West End’s pandemic recovery.
With book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, Heathers the Musical is based on one of the greatest cult teen films of all time, and starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The production is directed by Andy Fickman, with choreography by Thriller Live’s Gary Lloyd, designs by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by Dan Samson.
Casting will be announced in due course.
The Heathers the Musical UK and Ireland tour continues its run this autumn-winter calling at Brighton, Wimbledon, Bristol, Milton Keynes, High Wycombe and Cardiff, completing its run in Edinburgh on 11 December 2021.
It was announced that Bill Kenwright Ltd had bought The Other Palace from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Theatres. The venue was redeveloped in 2012, with a 308-seat performance space, separate state-of-the-art studio, bar and restaurant, making it the first newly built complex in central London in 30 years. LW Theatres had owned and operated the theatre since 2015.
Producer Bill Kenwright said: “Anyone who knows me… and that includes all of the current London theatre owners… knows that owning a theatre in London has never been on my bucket list.
“Andrew has been a friend and collaborator for over 40 years and when I heard that he was thinking of selling The Other Palace, that mindset altered. The Other Palace is a theatrical hub for new and exciting work where Andrew and his team have achieved so much. I had not only produced there, but also seen other productions both on the main stage and in the studio and had always felt the big hug that the theatre itself seemed to deliver. After nearly two years of pandemic chaos, it felt exactly the right moment for a positive step and a commitment to the future.”
Andrew Lloyd Webber added: “I have hugely enjoyed running The Other Palace, and we have enjoyed great success in this wonderful and unique place over the last six years. It is an amazing creative facility, and I am delighted that it will continue to be in safe hands under the stewardship of Bill Kenwright who shares my passion and commitment for developing and nurturing young talent and new work.”
