Award-winning performer Rob Madge (My Son’s a Queer (But what can you do?), Timpson The Musical) will host the Stiles + Drewe and Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) 2023 Best New Song Prize Concert.
Awarded on an annual basis to a member of MMD, the UK’s largest membership organisation dedicated to developing new musical theatre writing, the winner of this year’s award will be revealed at the end of a star-studded concert performance at The Other Palace in London today (13 November 2023).
Established and overseen by acclaimed writing duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Identical, Honk!, Mary Poppins), the Song Prize showcases 12 new songs from the musicals of tomorrow, in a celebration concert of new musical theatre writing.
This year’s line-up of star performers includes Alex Young (Standing at the Sky’s Edge), Ben Morris (Waitress), Caroline Sheen (9 to 5), Claire Moore (Miss Saigon), Hannah Lowther (Six), Lewis Cornay (The SpongeBob Musical), Lisa Davina Phillip (Ghost The Musical), Renée Lamb (CAKE – The Marie Antoinette Playlist), Rumi Sutton (Hex), Sienna Aurora Clarke (Matilda The Musical), William Barker (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) and Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins).
The evening will also include performances of songs from recent hit musicals, Operation Mincemeat, The Great British Bake-Off Musical, CAKE – The Marie Antoinette Playlist, My Son’s a Queer (But what can you do?) and Ride: A New Musical.
A panel of industry judges, including Stiles and Drewe, will award the prize and the winner will receive a prize of £1,000 towards developing their work. An additional prize for voice, vision and potential will also be awarded.
