Following two sell-out performances at London’s St James Theatre earlier this year and a mini-tour of the UK, Ivor Novello – The Great British Musical now transfers to play the London Hippodrome for one night only on Saturday 16 November at 8pm.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of the the most successful British musical theatre composer of the first half of the 20th century who now gives his name to a West End theatre and the internationally respected Ivor Novello Awards. The Matcham Room of the London Hippodrome is the perfect setting for a celebration of Welsh-born composer Novello, for in in 1945 his musical Perchance to Dream played there for more than 1,000 performances.
A host of West End singers, dancers and special guests from the worlds of theatre, opera and television will be taking part including Olivier Award nominee Sophie-Louise Dann (Lend Me a Tenor, Gay’s the Word, Sunday in the Park With George) and West End leading man Robert Meadmore (Oklahoma!, Camelot, Dear World) with narration by TV Favourite Russell Grant (The Wizard of Oz, Midnight Tango, Strictly Come Dancing). Grant also toured in the last major production of Novello’s King’s Rhapsody.
Artistic director of Ivor Novello – The Great British Musical is West End musical director, conductor, pianist, singer and vocal coach Ross Leadbeater. He was recently musical supervisor for Novello’s Gay’s the Word (Jermyn Street Theatre) and Novello’s Perchance to Dream (Finborough Theatre). He is a former member of Classical BRIT Award-winning choir Only Men Aloud.
Following the performances at the St James Theatre, Ivor Novello – The Great British Musical was nominated for Best Theatrical Event of the Year in the BroadwayWorld.com Awards.
