Jack Hinton presents The Baggy Trousers Concert

In April 2019, whilst rehearsing for Starlight Express out in Germany, Jack Hinton was diagnosed with testicular cancer and days later had to have emergency surgery. After the performer completed his contract (which ended rather abruptly due to Covid-19 in mid-March 2020) and settled back in London town, he still had his eyes set on his next venture: The Baggy Trousers Concert.

This will be Hinton’s first one-man show taking place at the Above The Stag Theatre on 3 December 2020. He will be using the platform to tell his story and raise money and awareness for Baggy Trousers UK: a non-profit organisation offering support for those fighting/survived testicular cancer.

The idea came to Hinton, given the lack of theatre the country has had access to in 2020. “As much as I hope to raise awareness for the charity and of course reach out and connect with anybody else who has ever been in my position, I’ve aimed to create a show with a bunch of songs that will hopefully help everybody forget their troubles: no matter how big or small – and of course, do my part and bring theatre back!”

Since graduating in 2017, Hinton booked his first professional job as a dancer in the sequel film Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. That Christmas he then was a part of The Christmasaurus: Live! at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in London. He then toured up and down the country as Frankie Valli and performed in one of Sasha Regan’s well-known all-male productions: Iolanthe, as a baby-faced soprano fairy. So by the time Hinton was required to perform as a train, he was more than used to playing extravagant roles!

“The idea of doing my own show where I am just me for 90 minutes is nerve-wracking but so exciting! Especially because this show has its purpose. Had I not have gone through all that I have this past year, the show wouldn’t even exist. I’ve watched so many documentaries and read so many stories of men who have gone through the same thing I have and the very least I can do is stand up and say ‘I’m here!’. The best way I know how to do this is through performing.”

Hinton also plans to stream the concert from 14-20 December 2020. Further details of this will be released in the next couple of weeks. He has been working with fellow MD Ben Papworth on arranging all the songs and Hollie Aires will make a special guest appearance.
