Award-winning writer Jack Thorne’s Junkyard will open in Bristol early next year ahead of a mini tour.
The writer who is currently enjoying critical acclaim and audience success for his work on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child provides the book and lyrics for the new musical based on a true story and set in 1979 Bristol.
With an original score by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin), Junkyard will play the Bristol Old Vic from 24 February until 18 March 2017 with a press night on 2 March.
The production will then head for Theatr Clwyd in Mold (29 March until 15 April) and the Rose Theatre, Kingston upon Thames (19-30 April)
Directed by the artistic director of the Headlong Theatre Company, Jeremy Herrin, Junkyard is a co-production between Headlong, Bristol Old Vic, the Rose Theatre Kingston and Theatr Clwyd.
The full cast is Scarlett Brookes (Macbeth, Globe Theatre); Calum Callaghan (Cymbeline, Sam Wanamaker Playhouse); Josef Davies ( Hangmen, Royal Court and West End); Erin Doherty (The Glass Menagerie for Headlong); Kevin McMonagle (People, Places and Things, for Headlong); Enyi Okoronkwo (Wonder.land, National Theatre); Seyi Omooba (Ragtime, Charing Cross Theatre), Lisa Palfrey (Much Ado About Nothing, Theatr Clwyd); Jack Riddiford (making his professional stage debut) and Ciaran Alexander Stewart (Dr Johnson Goes to Scotland, Oran Mor/Traverse Theatre).
The musicians are musical director Akintayo Akinbode on bass with Nadine Lee on drums and Dario Rossetti-Bonell on guitar.
Director Herrin heads a creative team that includes designer Chiara Stephenson with lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph and movement by Polly Bennett.
