Recorded at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, Janie Dee at the BBC features the West End favourite performing 13 songs taken from her acclaimed cabaret shows.
The special shows take place at London’s Live At Zédel on the album release date (2 October) and on 4 October at 7pm. They will feature songs from the new album performed by Dee and some surprise guests. Dee will also be performing a special late-night cabaret show Off the Record on 3 and 4 October at 9.15pm.
Covering a wide range of music genres, the album includes songs by Kander and Ebb, Bacharach and David, and rock band Keane as well as comic numbers by Spike Milligan and Alan Ayckbourn.
Commenting on the album, Dee said: “After performing my cabaret Janie Dee and the Gentlemen at The Pheasantry, several members of the audience came up and asked me if they could get my CD, so I decided I had to try and record some of my favourite pieces!
“Whilst rehearsing Anthony and Cleopatra at the BBC Maida Vale Studios (with the BBC Symphony Orchestra) I realised how much I love these studios and had recorded many performances there over the years. It is the perfect ‘live’ acoustic and atmosphere with ghosts of the greats from all spheres of the music world. I have been a dancer, singer and actress for almost 40 years and this is my first CD! I hope you enjoy the songs.”
