Stage and screen star John Barrowman is heading out on the road next year with his new show I Am What I Am.
Launching at Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion on 30 April 2022, the tour will visit 16 venues including the Adelphi Theatre in the West End.
Announcing the tour, the entertainer said: “From the West End to Broadway, this has been the amazing journey of my musical theatre career. I’ve worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Cameron Mackintosh to name a few. I’ve performed at the National Theatre and on Broadway. I’ve lived my dreams.
“My new show is a celebration of that wonderful journey. I’ll perform songs from the biggest musicals I’ve starred in and perhaps one or two that I haven’t. Mix in a couple of duets. Sprinkle in a few surprises! This will be a show to remember. This has been a difficult time for many, so join me for a night of laughter and love and the best of musical theatre.”
After Southend the tour will visit Cardiff, Guildford, Brighton, Oxford, Newcastle, Manchester, Blackpool, Glasgow, Birmingham, York, Northampton, Bath, London, Hull and Edinburgh.
The star of TV’s Dr Who and its spin-off Torchwood began his highly successful musical theatre career over 30 years ago opposite Elaine Paige in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes.
Barrowman also starred in West End productions of Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera, and after playing Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard in London, he reprised his performance on Broadway. An Olivier Award nominee for his role in The Fix, Barrowman most recently starred in the West End in La Cage Aux Folles in 2009.
A regular for five seasons in the hit US television series Arrow, Barrowman’s small screen credits include taking on the role of judge in the BBC West End talent searches, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? Any Dream Will Do and I’d Do Anything. More recently Barrowman has taken on hosting duties for ITV’s All Star Musicals and appeared on the judging panel for Dancing on Ice.
