John Partridge will star as the Emcee in UK tour of Cabaret

Stage and screen favourite John Partridge will star as the Emcee when Rufus Norris’ multi-award-winning Cabaret hits the road again this summer.

The former EastEnder whose vast array of West End credits include A Chorus Line, Chicago and Cats, will be holding court from 28 August 2019 when the extensive tour launches at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre. Further casting news will follow shortly.

Presented by Bill Kenwright, the tour will follow its Bromley run with visits to Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Crawley, Chester, Dublin, Belfast, Leicester, Shrewsbury, Hull, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Malvern. Further dates and venues will be added at a later date.

Directed by National Theatre artistic director Norris and featuring the Olivier Award-winning choreography of Javier de Frutos, the production has enjoyed two hit West End runs at The Lyric (in 2006) and the Savoy (in 2012) and collected two Olivier Awards.

Based on a 1939 book by Christopher Isherwood and a play by John Van Druten, Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

The show’s Broadway debut in 1966 with Joel Grey giving a career-defining performance as the Emcee, was followed by the show’s first appearance in London’s West End two years later with Judi Dench taking on the role of Sally Bowles alongside Barry Dennen as the Emcee.

Bob Fosse’s film version in 1972 collected eight Oscars including the Best Actress award for Liza Minnelli’s iconic and career-making performance as Sally Bowles.
