Julie Atherton to revisit Ordinary Days as director

Julie Atherton will direct the Off-West End revival of Ordinary Days over a decade after starring in the musical at London’s Trafalgar Studios.

Produced by Scatter Productions, the new production of Adam Gwon’s acclaimed work will play four performances at London’s Cockpit Theatre from 13-15 May 2022.

Atherton will direct Noah Thomas (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as Warren, Jonathan Carlton (Kinky Boots) as Jason, with Laura Dawn Pyatt (Bat Out of Hell) as Claire – the role originally played by Atherton, and Hannah Turner (The Chelsea Cowboy) as Deb. The alternates are Sarah Drake (Grease) and Dean Makowski Clayton (Elegies for Punks, Angels & Raging Queens).

The creative team also includes award-winning musical director Ben Levy, with casting by Benjamin Dywer at Blue Elephant Casting, lighting design by Domino Mannheim, sound design by Nim Green and set design by Bob Sterrett.

Commenting on the musical, Atherton said: “This show holds a special place in my heart after working on the original London production so revisiting as Director is a real privilege. It’s beautifully poignant and at times really funny. Adam Gwon’s music has a way of sneaking up on you and tugging at your heart strings.”

Set in New York after the 9/11 attacks, the sung-through musical features 21 songs to tell the story of four New Yorkers.
