Kerry Ellis releases new memoir

West End and Broadway leading lady Kerry Ellis has released a memoir tracing her glittering 20-year career.

Published ahead of her new intimate one-woman UK tour Kerry Ellis – Queen of the West End which is due to run from 25 September until 24 November, the similarly-titled book follows Ellis’ journey from her first dance lessons as a child through to her starring roles in classic musicals in the West End and on Broadway.

Commenting on the book she describes as a ‘real joy’ to write, Ellis said: “I was a dreamer as a kid. I dreamed big and there were things I wanted to do. I wanted to be in the West End, I wanted to be on Broadway, I wanted to sing in stadiums…  even back then there was an element of: ‘I will do this.’ There was a seriousness. There was a part of me that was sure I would do it…

“I am really proud of this book, and I hope everyone will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.”

An award winner for her performance as the first British Elphaba in Wicked and the originator of the role of Meat in We Will Rock You, Ellis has starred in some of the West End’s biggest hits including Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables and Anything Goes.

Presented by Away With Media in association with Westway Music, the tour will open at Thornden Hall in Eastleigh, with the final date due to be played at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton.

With over two decades in West End theatre to her credit, Ellis has also recorded four studio albums and toured the world as a solo artist and with good friend Queen’s Brian May.
