Killian Donnelly will play the man in the famous mask when the eagerly-anticipated UK and Ireland tour of the original production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera launches early next year.
Currently starring as Jean Valjean in the international tour of Les Misérables, the actor who originated the role of Charlie Price in Kinky Boots and played Raoul in the West End production of Phantom, will play The Phantom in Leicester, Manchester, Dublin and Birmingham.
Donnelly will star opposite Holly-Anne Hull (Les Misérables, Gielgud Theatre, Loserville, Union Theatre) as Christine Daaé and Rhys Whitfield (Jesus Christ Superstar, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, The Commitments UK tour) as Raoul.
They will joined by Saori Oda (Miss Saigon, Prince Edward Theatre, Wicked, Apollo Theatre) as Carlotta Giudicelli, Adam Linstead (Fiddler on the Roof, Playhouse Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera, Her Majesty’s Theatre) as Monsieur André, Matt Harrop (Me and My Girl, Chichester Festival Theatre, Cats European tour) as Monsieur Firmin, Francesca Ellis (Company, Gielgud Theatre, Mamma Mia! international tour) as Madame Giry, Greg Castiglioni (Titanic the Musical, Charing Cross Theatre, Evita, Adelphi Theatre) as Ubaldo Piangi and Royal Ballet School graduate Ellie Young ( Cats international tour) as Meg Giry. At certain performances the role of Christine Daaé will be played by Anouk Van Laake.
The cast is completed by Brad Barnley, Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, Corina Clark, Edward Court, Vinny Coyle, Lily De-La-Haye, Hywel Dowsell, Connor Ewing, Erin Flaherty, James Gant, Lydia Gerrard, Daniel Hall, Eilish Harmon-Beglan, Yukina Hasebe, Hettie Hobbs, Jacob Hughes, Grace Hume, James Hume, Michaela Leisk, Janet Mooney, Ian Mowat, Michael Robert-Lowe, Anna Simmons, Nikki Skinner, Anouk Van Laake, Louis Van Leer, Jasmine Wallis and Andrew York.
Presented by Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh, the tour is due to launch at Curve Leicester from 22 February until 21 March 2020. As previously announced the production will visit Manchester Palace Theatre (26 March to 30 May 2020), Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin (10 June to 18 July 2020), Birmingham Hippodrome (29 July to 12 September 2020) and Edinburgh Festival Theatre (23 September to 31 October 2020).
The tour will now also visit the Sunderland Empire (4 November to 5 December 2020), Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (9 December 2020 to 16 January 2021) and Plymouth Theatre Royal (20 January to 20 February 2021). Further venues and casting for the role of The Phantom from Edinburgh onwards will be announced soon.
Due to celebrate its 34th year in the West End in the autumn of 2020, The Phantom of the Opera is the only show in history to have celebrated three decades on both sides of the Atlantic.
Based on Gaston Leroux’s classic 1910 Gothic chiller, Le Fantôme de l’Opera boasts music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, a book by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber, and orchestrations by David Cullen and Lloyd Webber.
The Phantom of the Opera opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 starring Michael Crawford as The Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine. The much-loved show which is produced by Mackintosh and Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Theatre Company Limited is currently booking until April 2020.
The winner of over 70 major theatre awards, including seven Tonys and four Olivier Awards. The first stage production to reach worldwide grosses of $6 billion the show has been seen by 145 million people in 41 countries and 183 cities in 17 languages.
The Phantom of the Opera can currently also be seen in New York, Prague and Sao Paulo and on tour in the US and Asia.
