Casting has been announced for Kilworth House Theatre’s upcoming production of the classic musical West Side Story .
Liam Doyle will star as Tony with Laila Zaidi as his Maria. Other leading roles will be played by Sophia Ragavelas (Anita), Justin Thomas (Bernardo), Benjamin Yates (Riff), Dermot Canavan (Doc/Krupe) and Nicholas Tizzard (Schrank).
The cast also includes: Aaron Ashley Parker, Jak Skelly, Jason Kajdi, Bruce Aguilar-Rohan, Ryan Lee Seager, Jordan Cunningham, Gregor Stewart, Matt Holland, Jon Reynolds, Bobby Windebank, Meg Astin, Lucy Glover, Sophie Ayers, Molly-May Gardiner, Annie Guy, Michelle Andrews, Naoimh Morgan and Charlie Johnson.
The Leicestershire venue, in the grounds of the Kilworth Hotel, will offer an unusual setting for the doomed love story of Maria and Tony from 1 June until 17 July.
Producer Celia Mackay is being joined for the 2016 season by director Matthew White with musical director John Morton, choreographer Sam Spencer-Lane, set and costume designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Jason Taylor and sound designer Chris Whybrow completing the creative team.
West Side Story is, of course, based on a concept from Jerome Robbins, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
In contrast to the high drama of West Side Story, the outdoor space will also play host to the musical comedy of Thoroughly Modern Millie from 16 August until 11 September.
With a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, based on the original story and screenplay by Richard Morris for the Universal Pictures film, the production features new music by Jeanine Tesori and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan.
