Cole Porter’s classic musical comedy opens at Leeds Grand Theatre on 21 September, before touring to Theatre Royal Newcastle, The Lowry Salford Quays and Theatre Royal Nottingham. The show will be performed by a cast of opera and West End singers, accompanied by the full-scale orchestra of Opera North.

Kiss Me, Kate will be conducted by David Charles Abell (English National Opera’s Sweeney Todd, Fiddler On the Roof at Grange Park Opera) and directed by Jo Davies (who is responsible for a string of recent five-star successes for Opera North, including Ruddigore, Carousel and The Marriage of Figaro).

New choreography is by dancer and choreographer Will Tuckett, whose recent work includes the West End transfer of The Wind in the Willows (The Royal Opera House) and West Side Story (Sage Gateshead). Set and costume design is by Colin Richmond and lighting design is by Ben Cracknell.

Casting brings together the worlds of both opera and the West End, headed by soprano Jeni Bern (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Lilli Vanessi/Katherine and baritone Quirijn de Lang (The Marriage of Figaro) as Fred Graham/Petrucio. They are joined by acclaimed West End actress Tiffany Graves (Chicago, We Will Rock You) as Lois Lane/Bianca, Ashley Day (Oklahoma!, Royal and Derngate and UK tour) as Bill Calhoun/Lucentio, Wayne Robinson (Thriller Live) as Paul, Katie Kerr (Sweeney Todd, ENO) as Hattie, Callum Train (Cats, West End and UK tour) and Emmanuel Kojo (The Scottsboro Boys, West End) respectively playing Hortensio and Gremio, and James Hayes (many appearances with the RSC and NT) as Harry Trevor/Baptista.

The cast also includes: Jacade Simpson, John Savournin, Joseph Shovelton, Joshua Da Costa, Emile Ruddock, Matthew John Gregory, Jamie Emma McDonald, Alex Newton, Cris Penfold, Marianne Phillips, Ross McLaren and Rebecca Scarrott.
