Layton Williams and George Blagden join Kiss of the Spider Woman cast

Layton Williams and George Blagden are the latest additions to the cast of next year’s highly anticipated new production of the groundbreaking musical Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Co-produced by Curve, Bristol Old Vic and Mayflower Southampton, the first major UK revival of the Tony Award-winning musical since 1992 will launch at Curve Leicester in April next year.

Olivier Award winner Williams (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Apollo Victoria, Titanique, Charing Cross Theatre) will star as Molina alongside George Blagden (Company, Gielgud Theatre, White Christmas, Sheffield Crucible) as Valentin. They join the previously announced Anna-Jane Casey (Cabaret, The Kit Kat Club, Girl From the North Country, Gielgud Theatre) as Aurora, the legendary actress who embodies the Spider Woman of Molina’s fantasies. Further casting will be announced at a later date.

Directed by Paul Foster, the production will play Curve’s Studio Theatre from 3-25 April 2026, Bristol Old Vic from 29 April to 16 May 2026 and Mayflower Studios from 2-6 June 2026.

The creative team also include choreographer Joanna Goodwin, set designer David Woodhead, Olivier and Tony Award-winning costume designer Gabriella Slade, Tony Award-winning orchestrator and arranger Sarah Travis, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer Matt Peploe and casting director Stuart Burt CDG.

Featuring music by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and adapted for the stage by Terrence McNally, the stage musical version of Argentinian writer Manuel Puig’s acclaimed 1976 novel debuted on Broadway in 1993. The production which starred Chita Rivera, Brent Carver and Anthony Crivello received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. Writer and director Bill Condon’s high-profile film adaptation of the musical, starring Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, has just been released in the US.
