Sixty performers from some of the West End’s biggest shows will come together for a special star-studded performance presented by Cameron Mackintosh during this weekend’s Britain’s Got Talent final.
Celebrating the 35th birthday of Les Misérables and the 34th birthday of The Phantom of the Opera, the star-studded piece will feature the companies of Les Misérables – The Staged Concert, The Phantom of the Opera and Mary Poppins performing for the first time since theatres were forced to go dark due to Covid.
The artist line-up will include: Michael Ball, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Lucas, John Owen-Jones and Shan Ako (from Les Misérables – The Staged Concert), Zizi Strallen and Charlie Stemp (from Mary Poppins) and The Phantom of the Opera’s Killian Donnelly.
Announcing the performance, Mackintosh said: “Britain’s theatrical talent is the best in the world so it is a wonderful opportunity after seven months of enforced lockdown to be invited by Britain’s Got Talent to showcase three of my greatest British musical hits with their fabulous West End casts all bursting to perform again and remind audiences what an unforgettable thrill it is to enjoy the exhilaration of a live show.
“Several years ago, Susan Boyle ‘Dreamed her Dream’ and set the world alight and we are both eager and anxious to be told when we can fully reopen again next year so that we can all properly get on with our lives and celebrate the world beating talents of our amazing culture.”
All cast and crew members have been tested regularly throughout the preparations for the special performance which has been created adhering to Government safety guidelines.
This special performance coincides with the CD and DVD release of last year’s sell-out All-Star Staged Concert of Les Misérables featuring Ball, Alfie Boe, Hope Fletcher and Lucas and the release of the live cast recording of the new West End production of Mary Poppins starring Strallen and Stemp along with veteran recording artist Petula Clark.
