Musical theatre stars from the LGBTQ+ community will be in the spotlight for an online musical festival celebrating Pride past, present and future.
Presented by MPTheatricals, Queerly Productions, ALPMusicals, Musical Theatre Network (MTN) and Mercury Musicals Developments (MMD), MTPRIDE will begin with Queered, a blend of live performances and recordings that will re-frame and re-imagine classic musical theatre moments.
The central section of the trilogy will be Queerly Productions’ Sinqueerly, Me which will feature two hosts exploring their own life-stories as an LGBTQ+ womxn/non-binary person accompanied by performances of queer classics, re-imagined pop songs and new writing by ensemble of West End stars and up-and-coming LGBTQ+ Female/Trans.
Director/producer Adam Lenson will close the festival with SIGNAL x MTPRIDE, a concert of queer artist driven musical theatre which follows on from Lenson’s successful series of SIGNAL ONLINE concerts featuring musical theatre writers from across the world. The special version will focus on 12 LGBTQ+ writers who will present new songs live from their own homes.
The performances will be streamed on YouTube on 24 June, 1 July and 8 July at 8pm BST. The trilogy will be available on a ‘Pay What You Can Basis’. All proceeds will be split between UK Black Pride, Gendered Intelligence and a support fund for the artists involved.
Full details of the schedule can be found at www.mtpride.co.uk.
In addition to the three shows, MTPRIDE is partnering with Musical Theatre Network and Mercury Musical Developments to host a panel exploring LGBTQ+ representations within musical theatre on 29 June at 5pm.
