Line-up for Barn Theatre’s Dominic Powell online concert

The Barn Theatre has announced the line-up of performers for the sixth virtual concert in the venue’s popular on-line series showcasing the work of Britain’s musical theatre composers.

Celebrating the work of actor, writer and composer Dominic Powell, the concert this Saturday (8 August 2020) will include performances from Andrew Patrick-Waller (Brooklyn, Bat Out of Hell) and Maiya Quansah-Breed (Six). The pair were cast in Powell’s musical Cases which was due to play The Other Palace’s Studio space in April.

The concert will also feature performances from: Omar Baroud (Baptiste), Emily Chesterton (Jerry Springer), Joshua Dever (Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ Superstar), James Hameed (Be More Chill, Fiddler on the Roof), Ryan Heenan (Grease, The Boy in the Dress), Waylon Jacobs (Hamilton, Memphis), Bradley Judge (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hair), 2020 graduate Katie Ramshaw, Oliver Savile (Wicked, The Last Ship) and Courtney Stapleton (Dear Evan Hansen, Six).

Hosted by Barn Theatre producer Jamie Chapman Dixon, The Barn Theatre Presents’ series of concerts each feature performances from both established West End stars and new performers. Each concert is available on the Cirencester venue’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter channels at 7.30pm BST.

The award-winning creator of the musical Pieces of String, Gus Gowland will feature in the eighth concert in the series on 22 August. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The concert series is part of the Barn Theatre’s Behind The Barn Door live streaming service which was launched in March in response to the theatre closedown. The service includes a full recording of the venue’s critically-acclaimed 2019 Built By Barn production of William Shakespeare’s Henry V directed by Hal Chambers.

The August online concerts will feature alongside the Barn Theatre’s first summer outdoor festival which opened on 25 July and is due to run until 5 September.

Staged in the grounds of Ingleside House adjacent to the award-winning theatre, the festival includes a new co-production of Kander and Ebb’s musical revue The World Goes ’Round, three productions from outdoor theatre company Illyria Theatre, new theatre company SCOOT Theatre’s re-imagined A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Natasha Barnes and Vikki Stone’s Funny Gals: A History of Women Being Hilarious in Musicals.

The theatre is adhering to all government guidelines during the festival with further details and information regarding the venue and procedures to keep audiences, staff and performers safe available on the website.

Areas are divided into boxes which individuals or families can purchase. Pricing for boxes begins at £40 for up to four people with disability and premium options are also available.

Launched in 2018, the ambitious project to create a major producing house at the heart of the development of Cirencester’s Grade II listed Ingleside House attracted support from leading Broadway director Jerry Mitchell and actors James Dreyfus, Matthew Kelly, Heida Reed and Daisy May Cooper.

In just two years the Barn Theatre has gained national recognition for producing 12 Built By Barn shows attracting over 80,000 theatregoers and winning The Stage’s Best Fringe Theatre of the Year Award 2019.

With strong links to the local community already well established, the theatre has worked extensively with charities including Cirencester Housing for Young People and Age UK Gloucestershire.

A registered charity facing a loss of £250,000 due to lockdown, the Barn Theatre launched the SAVE OUR BARN campaign to raise funds to safeguard the Barn’s future. Supporters can donate via barntheatre.org.uk.
