Home-bound theatre-lovers who missed out on the recent streaming of the Palace Theatre debut of Sasha Regan’s award-winning all-male version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance will get another chance to see the hit show this Easter.
Recorded live on 13 December 2020, The Pirates of Penzance will return to Stream.Theatre from 29 March until 5 April 2021.
With all tickets priced at £15 (plus booking fee), the performances will be streamed at 7.30pm from 29 until 3 April. There will also be matinees at 2.30pm on 31 March and on 3 April and 5pm performances on 4 April (Easter Sunday) and 5 April (Easter Monday).
This is a ticketed event and only available at the scheduled dates and times. The timing of each stream is based on UK time.
Originally due to play the original home of D’Oyly Carte, the present-day Palace Theatre (originally opened as the Royal Opera House by Richard D’Oyly Carte in 1891) in London for just one night on 13 December, high demand for tickets led to the addition an extra performance on 12 December.
Regan directed and co-produced the show which starred: Oliver Savile; Alan Richardson; David McKechnie; Michael Burgen; Leon Craig; Lee Greenaway; Benjamin Vivian-Jones; Daniel Miles; Jamie Chidzey; Joel Elferink; Tom Duern; Matthew Facchino; Dominic Harbison; Tom Senior; Richard Russell Edwards; Sam Kipling; and Marc Akinfolarin.
Over a decade since the show debuted at London’s 50-seat Union Theatre, the critically acclaimed re-imagining of one of librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan’s most enduringly popular works sailed into London’s West End in W.S. Gilbert’s 184th birthday year.
Co-produced by Ben De Wynter for HMS2020 Productions, the production was choreographed by Lizzi Gee and associate choreographer Lee Greenaway, with musical direction by Richard Baker, design by Robyn Wilson Owen and lighting design by Ben Bull. Casting was by Adam Braham Casting with marketing and public relations by Fiona Lockley.
Following a debut run at the Union Theatre in 2009, the show played sell-out runs at Wilton’s Music Hall and Hackney Empire before heading to Australia for a major tour and then returning for a UK tour in 2015. A new production played Wilton’s Music Hall last year.
