A cast of local Merseyside talent has been assembled for the new production of the critically-acclaimed musical This Girl – The Cynthia Lennon Story when it returns to Liverpool’s Hope Street Theatre next month.
Written and directed by Mike Howl with devising direction by Mikyla Jane Durkan and social and digital media by Ant Canavan, the show which celebrates the life of Cynthia Powell, the woman who married fellow art student John Lennon and was the mother of the former Beatle’s son Julian, will return to the venue where it previously played a sell-out run in 2019 from 8-14 November 2021.
Jess Turton will take on the role of Young Cynthia with devising director Durkan playing the Older Cynthia alongside Mark Reader as John Lennon. The cast will also include: Samantha Richardson (Aunt Mimi), Kevin Thomas (Brian Epstein), Maggi Green (Lillian), Abby Bush (Dot Rhone), Holly Lovelady (Phyllis McKenzie), Lee Clothworthy (Julian Lennon), Lew Freeburn (Stuart Sutcliffe), Phillip Redgrave (Paul McCartney) and Addae G (Noel Charles). Director Howl will complete the cast as Jim McCartney.
Featuring original songs and musical arrangements by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Frankie Connor, Billy Kinsely and Alan Crowley, the new production includes eight new songs.
