Lucy O’Byrne and Neil McDermott to lead 2018 Sound of Music tour

Lucy O’Byrne will return to the role of Maria in Bill Kenwright’s touring production of The Sound of Music when the show goes back on the road in 2018 following a Christmas season in O’Byrne’s hometown of Dublin.

The former star of BBC’s version of The Voice who famously went from theatre usher to leading lady and won positive reviews for her performance in the iconic role of Maria in 2016, will be joined by former EastEnders actor Neil McDermott who will take on the role of Captain Von Trapp.

McDermott, who previously played Rolf in the London Palladium production of the much-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, has also appeared in The Wind in the Willows at the Palladium and Shrek at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Directed by Martin Connor and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer, with musical direction by David Steadman, the production will play its festive season at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin from 19 December until 6 January.

The show will launch its 2018 tour at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 9 January where it will remain until 13 January.

The tour will then head for Birmingham, Glasgow, Coventry, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Tunbridge Wells, Portsmouth and Manchester.
