The producers of Made in Dagenham have announced on the show’s website that the show will end its run at the Adelphi Theatre on Saturday 11 April. The musical comedy began performances in October last year and will add a further two weeks to its booking period before the final performance in April. Producers are already in discussions regarding a UK tour and future life for the show.
Stage Entertainment producer Rebecca Quigley said: “I’m immensely proud of Made in Dagenham and of everyone involved in bringing it to the stage.
“Brand new, British musicals are few and far between – particularly those that can make you laugh and move you in equal measure. Our writers, creative team and company have been particularly passionate about telling this true story of a remarkable event in our history with the wit, heart and creativity it deserves. They’ve achieved that and so much more.
Of course we’re sad to have to say goodbye for now, but to those amazing women who inspired this story, to our wonderful Made in Dagenham musical family and to the hundreds of thousands of people who will have seen the show before 11 April, a very big and heartfelt thank you.”
Made in Dagenham is directed by Rupert Goold (artistic director of the Almeida Theatre), and has a book by Richard Bean (writer of hit play One Man, Two Guvnors), music by Grammy Award-winning composer David Arnold (Bond series, Independence Day, Sherlock) and lyrics from Richard Thomas (Jerry Springer the Opera).
Based on the 2010 motion picture of the same name, the new musical comedy stars stage and screen actress Gemma Arterton in the lead role of Rita O’Grady, with Adrian Der Gregorian as her husband Eddie.
Made in Dagenham is presented by Stage Entertainment, Glass Half Full Productions and Just for Laughs Theatricals.
