A secret love affair between two of the 20th century’s most iconic figures is the subject of the new play Marilyn & Sinatra which receives its London premiere next month.
Written and directed by Sandro Monetti, the show which charts a tempestuous five-week relationship between Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra in 1955 will play the Jermyn Street Theatre from 15 until 21 August.
Starring Scottish actress Erin Gavin (Footballer’s Wives) as the ultimate blonde bombshell and America’s Got Talent finalist Jeff Bratz (Cabaret) as the king of the crooners, the show is produced by Jason Haigh-Ellery.
An author of books on Mickey Rourke and Colin Firth, Monetti is currently based in the US where he appears as a pundit on the CNN network. His stage work includes the parody musical Miserable Lesbians and his autobiographical one-man show Clooney, Cowell, Pitt and Me.
Revealing his inspiration for his latest work, Monetti said: “Ever since I was a kid growing up in Blackpool, I’ve been fascinated by Americana, especially showbiz icons. Marilyn and Frank Sinatra have always intrigued me, but I thought every story about them had been told. Then I discovered that they had lived together in Beverly Hills for five disastrous weeks in 1955.”
The play which had its world premiere in Beverly Hills earlier this year will also play two nights at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
