Former soap star Michelle Collins will join Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton in next year’s UK touring production of the musical comedy Thoroughly Modern Millie which is due to open in January 2017.
Collins, who starred in both Coronation Street and EastEnders before returning to the stage in hit shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will play the sinister Mrs Meers in the show until Saturday 4 March next year.
She will join the previously announced Clifton (Burn the Floor, Norma Jean Musical) as Millie when the tour opens at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Tuesday 17 January.
With a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, based on the original story and screenplay by Richard Morris for the Universal Pictures film, the multi award-winning show features new music by Jeanine Tesori and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan.
The tour will play the New Wimbledon Theatre until 21 January before moving on to the Milton Keynes Theatre (24-28 January); Edinburgh Playhouse (30 January-4 February); King’s Theatre, Glasgow (6-11 February); Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham (13-18 February); Liverpool Empire Theatre (20-25 February); York Grand Opera House (27 February-4 March); Swan Theatre, High Wycombe (6-11 March); King’s Theatre, Southsea (20-25 March); Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury (27 March-1 April); Brighton Theatre Royal (3-8 April); Orchard Theatre, Dartford (10-15 April); Leeds Grand Theatre (17-22 April); Venue Cymru, Llandudno (24-129 April); Woking’s New Victoria Theatre (8-13 May); Manchester Palace Theatre (22-27 May), Churchill Theatre, Bromley (5-10 June) and the Bristol Hippodrome (19-24 June).

The production will be directed and choreographed by Racky Plews. The creative team also includes musical director Tom Turner, casting director Sue Talbert, casting advisor Bambi Haines, executive producer David King and lead producer Graham King.
