Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho to make West End debut in Evita in Concert

Disney star Auli’i Cravalho will make her West End stage debut as Eva Peron in a star-studded concert presentation of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane this summer.

The voice of Moana in the 2016 animated film Moana and the star of the 2019 show The Little Mermaid Live, Cravalho will star alongside Matt Rawle who will return to the role of Ché he previously played in the 2006 West End revival.

Commenting on her casting in the production, Cravalho said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be playing the beautiful role of Eva Peron in Evita, one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most iconic leading ladies, alongside such incredible West End talent! My heart is so full to be part of Evita in Concert, held in one of the world’s most famous theatres. This is a dream come true!”

Presented by Fourth Wall Live and the London Musical Theatre Orchestra and arranged with the permission of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group, the two performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 31 July and 1 August will be directed by Olivier Award-winner Bill Deamer (Follies, Top Hat). The special concert presentation will feature the 30-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra.

With more than 20 major awards to its credit, and an Oscar-winning film version starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas, Rice and Lloyd Webber’s Evita features some of the best-loved songs in musical theatre, including ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, ‘On This Night of a Thousand Stars’ and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’. First seen in the West End in 1978, the last London revival of the musical was at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019.
