North West-based Monsta Productions has announced its first professional production will be Jason Robert Brown’s popular musical The Last Five Years.
Set up by artistic director John Garfield-Roberts to give professional actors in the North West work in the local area, Monsta Productions’ first show will play the Forum Theatre in Garfield-Roberts’ home city of Chester from 28-20 July. The show will then move on to Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn from 23-24 September.
Announcing the show, Garfield-Roberts said: “I am delighted to launch Monsta Productions with such a powerful piece of musical theatre and in the city and indeed the same building where my love for the stage started over 20 years ago.
“Monsta Productions aims to produce work from within the North West and I am delighted I can do that with our first professional production. As a bonus we are announcing that 30 tickets per performance in Chester will be on sale for just £10.”
The production will star Mountview musical theatre graduate Laura Coard (Oliver! Trinity Theatre) and Michael Jenkins (Spring Awakening, St Peters). Garfield-Roberts will direct while musical direction is by Tricia Gaskell who will conduct a six-piece orchestra.
