Rafaella Hutchinson and Sally George will become the first real-life mother and daughter to take on the central roles in a new production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Park Theatre this summer.
Singer-songwriter and actress Hutchinson (The Merry Wives of Windsor, Royal Shakespeare Company) will take on the title role of the reclusive Little Voice alongside George (People Places and Things, National Theatre and Wyndham’s Theatre) as her overbearing mother Mari in the production which will play the Finsbury Park venue from 16 August until 15 September 2018.
Directed by Tom Latter with associate direction by Anita Dobson, the production will also feature Linford Johnson (Pinocchio, National Theatre) as Billy, Kevin McMonagle (The Resistible Rise of Arturo Uri, National Theatre) as Ray Say, Jamie-Rose Monk (CBBC’s BAFTA award-winning Class Dismissed) as Sadie and Shaun Prendergast (Cinderella, Theatre Royal Windsor) as Mr Boo/Phone Man.
Set in a northern town in the 1980s Jim Cartwright’s award-winning story of a shy young woman with an amazing talent for mimicking some of music’s most distinctive female voices debuted at the National Theatre in a production directed by Sam Mendes in 1993. Featuring a show-stopping performance by Jane Horrocks who would later reprise the role on screen in an Oscar nominated movie, the production transferred to the Aldwych Theatre. A West End revival in 2009 featured former X Factor finalist Diane Vickers in the title role.
