Award-winning solo show My Son’s A Queer, (But What Can You Do?) will return for a new UK tour this summer.
Written and performed by Rob Madge (Les Misérables, 25th Anniversary Tour and O2 concert, Millennials, The Other Palace Studio) and directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, Shaftesbury Theatre, The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾: The Musical, West End, Menier Chocolate Factory and Leicester Curve), the production’s 2024 will launch at Curve Leicester from 8-10 July.
The tour which will include a run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at McEwan Hall from 1-16 August, will also visit the Birmingham Hippodrome (11-13 July), Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre (15-17 July), Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse (18-20 July), Derby Theatre (22-24 July) and HOME Manchester (19-25 August).
After debuting at the Thames-side Turbine Theatre with a sold-out season in 2021, My Son’s A Queer, (But What Can You Do?) became London’s Turbine Theatre’s first West End transfer when it played a limited season at the Garrick Theatre later that year. The musical also played a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 and played a second successful West End run at the Ambassadors Theatre in 2023. The winner of the WhatsOnStage Best Off-West End Production of 2022, the musical was also nominated for an Olivier Award.
Described as a ‘celebration of the joy and chaos of raising a queer child’, the production features songs by Pippa Cleary, set and costume design by Ryan Dawson Laight, video design by George Reeve, lighting design by Jai Morjaria, sound design by Tingying Dong and orchestrations by Simon Nathan. The show is produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor-Mills.
