Samantha Womack and Cameron Blakely’s return visit to the roles of Morticia and Gomez in the touring production of The Addams Family musical has been rescheduled for early 2021.
Originally due to be back on the road in the UK and Ireland this summer, the gothic musical comedy will now launch at Cardiff’s New Theatre on 26 January 2021.
Presented by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment and Music & Lyrics Limited, the production will be directed by the director of the successful first UK and Ireland tour in 2017, Matthew White (The Producers, Mr Stink UK tours).
Recently seen in the West End in the stage version of The Girl On the Train, former EastEnder Womack launched her post-Albert Square career by stepping into the role of the Addams Family matriarch Morticia in the first UK and Ireland tour. Blakeley (Les Misérables, Queen’s Theatre, Rock of Ages, UK tour) co-starred as Gomez with TV favourite Les Dennis as Uncle Fester and Heathers star Carrie Hope-Fletcher as Wednesday Addams.
Featuring a book by the creators of the multi-award-winning Jersey Boys, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish), the second tour will follow its opening run in Cardiff by visiting Dartford, Liverpool, Bradford, Northampton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Wimbledon, Glasgow, Dublin, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Salford, Nottingham, Hull, Milton Keynes, Bromley, Oxford and Woking. Further tour dates and full casting will be announced soon.
Based on the much-loved characters created by Charles Addams, the original Broadway production opened on Broadway in 2010. Starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, the multi-million-dollar production won four Broadway.com audience awards. The Broadway production closed at the end of 2011 and there were a number of international and touring productions of the show including a US tour also in 2011 and a European premiere in Sweden in 2012.
