New Adventures has announced casting for the much-anticipated return of Matthew Bourne’s version of Cinderella which will open at Sadler’s Wells in December ahead of a UK tour beginning in January 2018.
Marking 20 years since Cinderella first premiered in the West End and becoming New Adventures’ 16th consecutive Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells, the production will run from 9 December until 27 January.
Announcing details of the production, Bourne said: “Cinderella is one of my most heartfelt works and a personal favourite amongst my re-imagined classic stories. I’m delighted to have brought together this cast of current star performers, experienced New Adventures veterans and exciting young talent. I’m thrilled to see another generation of company dancers take on this beloved production.”
Cordelia Braithwaite and Ashley Shaw will follow up their critically-acclaimed performances as Victoria Page in Bourne’s recent The Red Shoes and as Aurora in previous festive season production of Sleeping Beauty, by sharing the role of Cinderella.
Cinderella’s heroic pilot, Harry, will be performed by Will Bozier, Andrew Monaghan and Dominic North. The Angel (Cinderella’s Fairy GodFather) will be danced by Paris Fitzpatrick and Liam Mower. Sybil, Cinderella’s stepmother, is performed by Madelaine Brennan, Michela Meazza (London only) and Anjali Mehra. Robert, Cinderella’s father is performed by Alan Vincent and Dan Wright.
Cinderella’s stepbrothers and sisters and the people of 1940s London complete the cast: Steph Billers; João Carolino; Reece Causton; Jackson Fisch; Glenn Graham; Sophia Hurdley; Jack Jones; Nicole Kabera; Kate Lyons; Jamie McDonald; Stephen Murray (former Central School of Ballet/New Adventures student associate); Danny Reubens; Katie Webb; and Seren Williams.
With music by Prokofiev, Bourne’s production takes the classic fairytale and transforms it into a love story set in London during the Second World War. Featuring Olivier Award-winning costumes and sets by Lez Brotherston, the production features lighting by Olivier Award-winner Neil Austin and will be performed in Surround Sound designed by Paul Groothuis. The production features a specially commissioned recording played by a 60-piece orchestra.
Following its seven-week Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells, the production will head for Plymouth, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Nottingham, Salford, Bristol, Southampton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle, Wimbledon, Bradford, Sheffield, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Woking.
