Tony Award-winning British composer Sarah Travis has provided the music for a new multi-sensory musical for children launching in Eastbourne this Christmas season.
Written and directed by actress Kali Peacock (The Inbetweeners, My Family), The Lost Toys’ Big Christmas Adventure will play Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery from 13-31 December.
The story of a group of toys who become lost on Christmas Eve and their attempts to reach their children before they wake on Christmas morning will be played out in the gallery space which has been converted into a fully accessible theatre for the run.
Commenting on her creation Peacock said: “I wanted to write a play with strong female characters – something often missing from traditional Christmas shows. But we also wanted to showcase the work of fabulous women, both onstage and off. The Lost Toys is written, directed and produced by women and having the chance to work with Sarah Travis has been wonderful. She has an amazing ability to make small shows sound huge and I can’t wait for people to see it.
“As the mum of a five-year-old whose disability means he can’t walk or talk, making theatre accessible to all children is also something I’m passionate about. Theatres – particularly some of the older ones – can be difficult to access, so we decided to take a fully accessible space and turn it into a theatre instead.”
