New podcast in association with Musical Theatre Review: The Mayor of Musical Theatre meets Anna-Jane Casey

West End legend Anna-Jane Casey reveals her favourite currently running West End musical in trailer for new podcast, The Mayor of Musical Theatre.

The brand-new podcast The Mayor of Musical Theatre has released a teaser trailer for its first ever season.

The show is produced in association with Musical Theatre Review – in the website’s 10th anniversary year – by Ian Bowkett, a composer and regular contributor to this website.

Each week, Bowkett will pretend to be a mayor (the reason for this is unclear) and talk to a celebrity guest about their favourite musicals.

After choosing a show for each of the mayor’s categories (funniest musical, best movie musical, etc), the guest will decide on one show that, as mayor, Bowkett should order run in the West End forever.

Episode One featuring West End superstar Anna-Jane Casey will be released on 9 February 2023.

In a wide-ranging chat recorded before a performance of her show Mother Goose at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre, Casey discusses the shows that have had a big impact on her, backstage antics at the Old Friends Stephen Sondheim memorial concert, and working with Ian McKellen and John Bishop in pantomime.

In this tantalising first clip, Casey reveals that her favourite show currently running in the West End is one she used to star in: Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club.

As you will hear, she is still deeply excited about that innovative reinterpretation of Kander and Ebb’s classic musical.
