Clockwise: Zara MacIntosh, Cherelle Jay and Hana Stewart
A trio of new Queens are in training to join the current West End run of crowd and critic-pleasing British musical Six in October 2019.
Newcomers Cherelle Jay, Zara MacIntosh and Hana Stewart are already in rehearsals to prepare to take over from current alternates Vicki Manser, Grace Mourat and Courtney Stapleton from October.
A former member of ground-breaking Hip Hop dance company, Zoonation, Jay will join the Six company fresh from understudying the role of Pritti Pasha in another new British hit, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
London College of Music graduate MacIntosh will make her West End debut in Six following on from her performance in hip hop musical In The Willows’ UK tour.
Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Performers College graduate Stewart completes the new line-up after completing her first feature film, Brighton, starring Larry Lamb, Marion Bailey, Lesley Sharp and Phil Davis.
Recently extended for the second time with the opening of a new booking period taking the show Arts Theatre run up to 5 July 2020, the team behind Six announced details of the eagerly-anticipated Broadway transfer earlier this month.
Written by university friends Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the musical which was nominated in 2017 for Musical Theatre Review’s inaugural Best Musical Award, puts the spotlight on the Tudor King’s wives as they form a 21st century girl band. The show’s first Arts Theatre run followed a successful return visit to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and a well-received four-date London run in January 2018.
The second London run of the show currently features returning cast members: Jarneia Richard-Noel (The Color Purple in Concert, Cadogan Hall) as Catherine Of Aragon; Millie O’Connell (UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Anne Boleyn; Natalie Paris (Sunday in the Park With George at the Menier Chocolate Factory) as Jane Seymour; Alexia McIntosh (Godiva Rocks at Belgrade Theatre) as Anna Of Cleves; Aimie Atkinson (Zorro the Musical, UK tour) as Katherine Howard, with recent Guildford School of Acting graduate Maiya Quansah-Breed (Catherine Parr).
Following O’Connell and Quansah-Breed’s final performances on 13 October, Courtney Bowman (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Apollo Theatre) and Danielle Steers (Sweet Charity, Donmar Warehouse) will take over the roles of Anne Boleyn and Catherine Parr from 15 October.
From this month, Collette Guitart (Bat Out of Hell, West End) will join the company as dance captain/understudy and Shekinah Macfarlane (American Idiot, UK tour) joins as alternate Catherine of Aragon and Anna of Cleves until October.
Presented by Kenny Wax and Global Musicals, the show which features tracks including ‘Ex Wives’, ‘Haus of Holbein’ and ‘Don’t Lose Ur Head’, is directed by co-creator Moss and Jamie Armitage.
The creative team also includes choreographer Carrie-Anne Ingrouille and musical supervisor Joe Beighton, with set design by Emma Bailey, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting design by Tim Deiling, sound design by Paul Gatehouse and orchestrations by Tom Curran.
Six is the first musical from Marlow and Moss, two thirds of the award-winning theatre company Hot Gay Time Machine whose satirical show Hot Gay Time Machine was also a hit at the Fringe before playing a sold-out run at The Other Palace in 2018.
The musical made its North American debut at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in May. The successful run ended on 4 August. Prior to Broadway, the show will also play limited engagements in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Edmonton, Canada and Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The show is also due to take to the road across the UK for a nine-month Royal tour this autumn, and discussions are also under way for the show to head for Japan, Australia, and South Korea.
