American award-winning recording artist, actress and TV personality, Nicole Scherzinger will make her Broadway debut later this year when Jamie Lloyd’s hit London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard transfers to the Great White Way.
Scherzinger will reprise her acclaimed performance as faded movie queen Norma Desmond alongside her equally acclaimed London co-stars Tom Francis (& Juliet, Shaftesbury Theatre, What’s New Pussycat, Birmingham Rep) as Joe Gillis, with Grace Hodgett Young who made her professional stage debut in the production as Betty Schaefer and David Thaxton (Come From Away, Phoenix Theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) as Max Von Mayerling.
Production dates, theatre and additional casting for Sunset Boulevard on Broadway will be announced shortly.
Presented by The Jamie Lloyd Company (the successful partnership between the Ambassador Theatre Group and artistic director Jamie Lloyd), alongside the newly formed Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals – a joint venture by Lloyd Webber and Michael Harrison – the bold new version of the award-winning musical played a debut limited run at the Savoy Theatre from 21 September 2023. The production took its final bow in London on 6 January 2023.
Lloyd heads a creative team that also includes: Soutra Gilmour (set and costume designer); Fabian Aloise (choreographer); Alan Williams (music supervisor and musical director); Jack Knowles (lighting designer); Adam Fisher (sound designer); Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom (video design and cinematography); Jim Carnahan and Jason Thinger (US casting director); and Stuart Burt (UK casting director).
Announcing the production which opened 30 years after the show’s West End debut, Lloyd said: “After our reappraisal of Evita at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, I’m very excited to rediscover another iconic Lloyd Webber musical — and Sunset Boulevard is one of his most thrilling, complex and atmospheric scores. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to create a new production of this fascinating piece with the extraordinary Nicole Scherzinger.”
Based on the classic Paramount film by Billy Wilder, and featuring music by Lloyd Webber with a book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, Sunset Boulevard opened in the West End in 1993 with Patti LuPone as Norma Desmond. The award-winning star of the first Broadway production, Glenn Close also played Norma Desmond in the second West End revival and in the first Broadway revival.
