Singers of all ages and backgrounds are being invited to enter a new singing competition aimed at promoting the work of new musical theatre writers.
Launched by online sheet music hub New UK Musicals in partnership with theatre companies Perfect Pitch, ALP Musicals, music school The Sing Space and new website 10Glo, the online competition The Voice Of New UK Musicals offers cash prizes along with the chance for one lucky singer to perform at New UK Musicals’ first live show at a West End venue in 2021.
Announcing details of the competition, the founder of New UK Musicals Darren Clark said: “We’re extremely excited to be collaborating with Perfect Pitch, ALP Musicals, The Sing Space and 10Glo on this new competition. We have recently taken on board Perfect Pitch’s catalogue of fantastic material and are very excited to introduce our growing audience to their brilliant writers.”
Commenting on the new partnership with New UK Musicals, Perfect Pitch producer Andy Barnes said: “We’re delighted to be able to add many of the songs from our musicals catalogue to the New UK Musicals website which is a really great resource for the industry.
“We look forward to working with Darren, and the other partners on this project, and to help provide a platform for new voices to be heard performing songs from the hands of many incredibly talented writers.”
On behalf of 10Glo.com, Daniel Kuney added: “Our mission at 10glo is to provide an online platform for musical theatre artists to get their work seen and heard that is divorced from connections, money or location.
“We are thrilled to partner with New UK Musicals on this competition because we know the end result will be that more musical theatre composers and performers will get their day to shine, no matter where in the world they live, and on an absolutely level playing field.”
Open to all ages from six upwards and open to anyone, anywhere in the world, the competition is now open and will close on 1 January 2021. Entrants should choose and purchase their favourite song or songs (up to three in total) from the catalogue of songs on the New UK Musicals’ site. Each entrant should then film their performance or performances and upload to the 10Glo website. For further details visit the New UK Musicals website.
Chosen by a panel of West End experts, the overall winner will receive a cash prize of £300 and will be offered the opportunity to perform with a live band at the New UK Musicals concert in 2021. The runner-up will receive £100 cash while the Audience Award winner (the video with the highest number of likes/loves on Facebook) will also receive £100 cash. Further prizes will be announced soon.
New UK Musicals was launched during the first lockdown by Clark, the multi award-winning composer and lyricist of new shows The Wicker Husband and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
