Matthew Bourne, Sian Phillips, Barbara Windsor and Imelda Staunton are among the famous names from the entertainment world celebrating their inclusion in the New Year’s Honours list.
Choreographer Bourne has been knighted while both Sian Phillips and Barbara Windsor become Dames. Imelda Staunton is following up her triumphant run in the acclaimed production of Gypsy by celebrating being made a CBE.
Other CBE recipients from the arts and entertainment sector include pianist Radu Lupu, playwright and screenwriter Peter Morgan and the founder and artistic director of the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain, Jill Tookey.
Actors Idris Elba, David Oyelowo and James Nesbitt, musician and Blur frontman Damon Albarn, pianist Malcolm Martineau, conductor Steuart Bedford and director Piers Haggard all receive OBEs.
Violinist Alina Ibragimova; Helen Marriage, the founder of Arts Company Artichoke; Michael McCarthy, co-founder of Music Theatre Wales; Bradley Hemmings, artistic director of the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival; and Isabella McCue, the chair of Glasgow-based Theatre Nemo, are all included on the list of new MBEs.
