Ryan Hutton, Tom Bennett and Paul Whitehouse will star in Only Fools and Horses – The Musical
Del Boy and Rodney will drive into the West End in early 2019 when creator John Sullivan’s dream of bringing a musical Only Fools and Horses to the stage comes to fruition.
Nearly eight years after the much-admired writer’s death, the Trotters will step out on stage at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in February next year in a major British musical written by comedian Paul Whitehouse and John Sullivan’s son, Jim.
Commenting on his involvement in the production, Whitehouse said: “This was the last project that John Sullivan was working on when he died – he was just starting to develop Only Fools as a musical – so when writing it, Jim and I have remained very faithful to the feel and scripts of the TV series, but also highlight some contemporary issues.
“We’re very conscious of the Only Fools’ legacy and that it’s so fondly remembered by people of almost all ages, so we’ve tried to incorporate everyone’s favourite moments from the TV shows and of course, all the great characters – but this time it’s with songs.”
Whitehouse will also star as Grandad alongside Tom Bennett (E4’s Phoneshop, the upcoming Elton John bio-pic Rocketman) as Del Boy and Ryan Hutton who will make his professional West End stage debut as Rodney in the production.
Featuring material from the enduringly popular TV series, and 20 comic songs, the family-friendly musical version of the classic comedy will also feature musical contributions from Chas ‘n’ Dave.
Directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, the eagerly-anticipated production which will feature many of the most popular characters from the multi-award-winning show will begin previewing from 9 February 2019 ahead of an opening night on 19 February.
