Ordinary Days, one of the ten musicals shortlisted for our inaugural Musical Theatre Review Best Musical Award at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, will return to London to play the Drayton Arms Theatre from 21 November until 9 December, with a press night on 22 November.
Presented by Streetlight, People! Productions, the winner of the West London venue’s Kensington Eddies award (set up to identify the most exciting new companies at this year’s Fringe Festival), the New York set contemporary musical has won critical and audience acclaim.
With music and lyrics by Adam Gwon and directed by Streetlights, People! Productions’ Jen Coles, the show previously played a sold-out run at Islington’s Hen and Chickens Theatre last October before transferring to London Theatre Workshop ahead of its Edinburgh run.
The production company’s co-founder Nora Perone said: “I was drawn to Ordinary Days because, as well as being a triumph of musical comedy, it’s also a brilliant examination of the struggles faced today by young adults – and particularly by young artists. Ordinary Days is a breath of fresh air in a city that can sometimes feel polluted with cynicism and self-doubt.”
Perone, who launched the company with Coles when both were still students at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, added: “We set out to do two performances last October, and suddenly it’s a year later, and our press night at the Drayton Arms will be our 50th show. We’ve really been very lucky: we are immensely grateful to have audiences who love the show just as much as we do.”
