Former Strictly champion Ore Oduba will follow up roles in Grease and Curtains by starring as Brad Majors in Richard O’Brien’s cult classic The Rocky Horror Show.
The crowd-pleasing touring production is due to return to UK theatres from July this year with dates already scheduled until June 2022.
Commenting on his casting in the much-loved musical, Oduba said: “I can’t wait to join the cast of The Rocky Horror Show. Like everybody, I’ve missed the stage so much and Rocky really is the perfect show to welcome audiences back to theatres. It’s such an iconic musical with songs that everyone knows, so I’m sure the Rocky fans will be desperate to do the Time Warp again! I’m so excited to get started and tour the country with our production… just got to remember to pack my stockings!!”
Oduba will join returning cast members Stephen Webb (Jersey Boys, Legally Blonde) as Frank and actor/director Philip Franks (The Darling Buds of May) as The Narrator. Haley Flaherty will return to the role of Janet along with another fan favourite Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff – a role he has previously played for over 1350 performances across the world.
Lauren Ingram (Beauty and the Beast, My Fair Lady) will play Columbia with Callum Evans (Grease, Miss Saigon) taking on the role of Rocky and Joe Allen (Little Shop of Horrors, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Eddie and Dr Scott.
Joining the cast as Phantoms will be Reece Budin (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Man of La Mancha), Jordan Fox (Kinky Boots, Hairspray) and Rachel Grundy (Starlight Express, Peter Pan), with Danny Knott (Saturday Night Fever, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Male Swing.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe the driving force behind the 40th anniversary re-working of the show, the production is due to hit the road again from 12 July. After an opening run at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, the show will visit Canterbury, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Plymouth, Llandudno, Sunderland, Birmingham, Bradford, Hull, Brighton, Blackpool, Bromley, Oxford, Cardiff, Belfast, Poole, Hastings, Aberdeen, Stoke-On-Trent and Southend.
Since its first appearance at the Royal Court Theatre in June 1973, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show has become the world’s favourite rock‘n’roll musical. It has been performed worldwide for over 45 years in over 30 countries, selling out in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Austria, and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Luscombe created a new production in 2013 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show which famously combines science-fiction, horror, comedy and music and encourages audience participation.
