West End stars David Hunter (Waitress), Rachel John (Hamilton), Cedric Neal (Motown) and Rachel Tucker (Come From Away) (with Shem Omari James) will take to the stage of the London Palladium next month for two performances of Jason Robert Brown’s Songs For A New World.
Presented by Lambert Jackson, the live shows on 11 October 2020 follow on from the company’s virtual production of the moving song cycle staged during lockdown in association with The Other Palace.
Unveiling details of the two performances which will be directed by Séimí Campbell, Lambert Jackson Productions’ Jamie Lambert and Eliza Jackson said: “It’s a total joy to announce a return to live performance with the first musical to return to the West End – Jason Robert Brown’s Songs For A New World for just two performances.
“To be able to share in the power of collective experience with these incredible performers and an audience together again for the first time in over six months reminds us why our industry is so vital.”
Marking the first time the iconic London theatre will open its doors to paying audiences since the curtains came down in March, the two shows will go ahead in strict adherence to government guidelines for live indoor performances.
The first produced show written and composed by the multi-award-winning Brown (The Bridges of Madison County, Parade, 13 and The Last Five Years), Songs For a New World was originally produced Off-Broadway in 1995.
Featuring just four performers, the show premiered in London in 2001 at the Bridewell Theatre. The London revival in 2005 at the St James Theatre featured Cynthia Erivo, Jenna Russell, Damian Humbley and Dean-John Wilson. Lambert Jackson’s lockdown virtual production of Songs For A New World also starred John, Neal and Tucker along with Ramin Karimloo.
The virtual production of Songs For A New World, along with a virtual production of The Last Five Years, were among a number of projects presented by Lambert Jackson over the last six months aimed at entertaining home-bound audiences and offering paying work to artists.
Dedicated to producing musical theatre-themed shows, Lambert Jackson was founded by CEO Jamie Lambert and creative director Eliza Jackson. Launched in 2018 with There’s Nothin’ Like a Dame – a celebration of 100 years of female characters in musical theatre, Lambert Jackson is currently working on The Throwaways, a new British musical by Dylan Wynford, a production of The Secret Garden and a concert series at the Adelphi Theatre featuring stars including Samantha Barks and John Owen-Jones.
