Imagine, if you can, being stuck in a public unisex toilet with people you’ve never met, for a full hour. It happens right? Imagine you have nothing in common with these people, and yet you’re inexplicably thrown together and left to your own devices. Well, these things do happen, and are happening right now at the Pleasance Courtyard on a nightly basis (someone should really fix the lock). But if they did, you’d never get to experience Public: The Musical, and trust me, washed hands or not, this show isn’t to be missed.

A show of discovery, understanding and realisation that it’s a brave new world we’re living in, this musical packs all the punches in a truly up-to-date work which deserves praise for its topical choices. Based on four characters, all very different in their own ways, yet so similar in others, we watch as they realise that different isn’t actually a thing that should be shied away from.

The songs are completely current with a delicious contrast of pace. Definitely something for everyone. But most importantly, with this cast, every song is completely on point. All four deliver spotless harmonies and solos, bringing each song right to the forefront as an instant favourite. Along with the singing, the acting is also spot on, with all the performers delivering some fantastic moments and comedy gold in droves. The standing ovation couldn’t have been more deserved for this hilarious, heartfelt and bold new musical. Get your tickets now, though I spy you may have to join the queue!
