Former Dancing on Ice champion Ray Quinn will be in the driving seat for the new production of the musical based on much-loved 1960s movie Summer Holiday when it takes to the road across the UK later this year.
Stepping into the role famously played on screen by Cliff Richard, the X Factor runner-up to Leona Lewis who has gone on to carve out a successful career in musical theatre productions including Grease, Dirty Dancing and most recently in The Wedding Singer, is the first star name cast in the production.
Directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, Summer Holiday will make its first stop at the Liverpool Empire on 8 May 2018 ahead of a UK tour that will continue through 2018 and into 2019.
Based on the 1963 film that took Cliff and The Shadows on a light-hearted tour across Europe aboard a red London double decker bus, the movie has been adapted for the stage by Michael Gyngell and Mark Haddigan.
Featuring hit songs including ‘In the Country’, ‘Bachelor Boy’, ‘Move It’, ‘Living Doll’, ‘The Young Ones’ and the title song ‘Summer Holiday’, the production will be executive produced by David King and feature orchestrations by Keith Strachan. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
After playing the Liverpool Empire until 12 May the tour is due to visit Milton Keynes, Woking, York, Bromley, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Plymouth, Brighton, Blackpool, Leeds, Cardiff, Southend, Dartford, Chester, Wimbledon, Darlington, Stoke, Aylesbury and Glasgow.
Further dates for 2018 and the first 2019 dates will be announced soon.
