American stage and screen star Anthony Rapp will make a rare London appearance this December in a series of concerts at St James Studio.
One of the original stars of the innovative musical Rent, Rapp will be performing in the venue’s studio theatre at the same time as the new 20th anniversary production of Jonathan Larson’s hit show plays the main house.
Last seen in London in 2012 with solo show Without You at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the award-winning actor will play the St James Studio from 5-17 December.
Described as an ‘intimate and unplugged’ evening of songs and stories that have influenced Rapp’s life and career, the shows will feature songs from Broadway and beyond, including numbers from Rent. He will be joined by musical director Daniel A. Weiss.
The fastest-selling show in history at the St James Theatre, Rent will play a Christmas season from 8 December until 28 January 2017.
St James Studio has also announced its first ever drag week featuring some of the country’s most popular drag performers (1-5 November).
Drag supergroup Denim will be the first to take to the St James stage on 1 and 2 November, followed by singer Jessica Walker’s Love is a Drag (3 November) and West End star Ian Stroughair’s alter-ego Velma Celli in Iconic – A Brief History Of Drag (4 and 5 November).
