Rescheduled Waitress tour dates announced for 2021/2022

Producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian have confirmed the revised dates for the first UK and Ireland tour of Broadway and West End hit Waitress.

Originally due to hit the road in November this year, the eagerly-anticipated tour will now launch at The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford on 1 May 2021. Following the opening run in Bradford, the tour will visit Birmingham, Ipswich, Southampton, Liverpool, Woking, Nottingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Plymouth, Oxford, Cardiff, Wolverhampton, Leeds, Southend on Sea, Norwich, Crawley, Milton Keynes, Wimbledon, Eastbourne, Sunderland, Brighton, Manchester, Aberdeen and Stoke-on-Trent.

In 2022 the tour will visit Northampton, Edinburgh, Leicester, Hull, Bromley, Belfast, Newcastle, Torquay and Llandudno. Casting for the tour and further dates will be announced soon.

The first major West End musical to boast an all-female creative team Waitress opened at London’s Adelphi Theatre in March 2019. Featuring a book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, the musical is directed by Tony Award winner Diana Paulus with choreography by Lorin Latarro.

Inspired by Adrienne Shelley’s 2007 film Waitress, the musical tale of love, friendship and perfect pies opened on Broadway in 2016. A hit with audiences and critics, the show was nominated for four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical; two Drama League Award Nominations, including Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical; six Drama Desk Nominations, including Outstanding Musical; and four Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.

Waitress began previews in the US in August 2015 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before transferring to Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre in March 2016. Due to Covid-19, the successful North American tour and planned productions in Australia and Holland this year and in Japan are currently on hold.
