Rufus Hound and Katy Brand are the latest famous faces lined up to play leading roles in the West End cast of the award-winning musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Comedian turned theatre star Hound will follow his starring roles in hit musicals including Wind in the Willows, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Boy in the Dress by stepping into the roles of Hugo/Loco Chanelle from 16 March until 30 May 2020.
Looking forward to his latest West End appearance, Hound said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be going into the cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – a brilliant, brave and British smash hit. I have been waxing for the last year in anticipation and am currently so tucked I may as well be a Ken doll. Bring. It. On.”
A familiar face on TV with shows including the award-winning Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show and in films including Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, popular stand-up comedy star Brand will step into the role of Miss Hedge from 3 March until 20 June 2020.
Commenting on her imminent arrival in the West End, Brand said: “Joining the cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a truly thrilling opportunity for me. If I could tell my teenage self that I would one day have the chance to perform in a huge hit show on the West End stage, that girl would pinch herself. Jamie gets to realise his dream every night, and now so do I!”
The newcomers will join current cast members Noah Thomas (Jamie New), Melissa Jacques (Margaret New), Sejal Keshwala (Ray), Hiba Elchikhe (Pritti Pasha), David O’Reilly (Laika Virgin), James Gillan (Tray Sophisticay), Leon Craig (Sandra Bollock) Marlon G. Day (Dad), Jordan Ricketts (Dean Paxton), Alexander Archer (Mickey), Zion Battles (Levi), Zahra Jones (Becca), Emily Kenwright (Vicki), Keenan Knight (Sayid), Jordan Laviniere (Cy), Harriet Payne (Bex), Tilly La Belle Yengo (Fatimah), Rico Bakker (Swing), Ebony Clarke (Swing), Rachel Seirian (Swing), Joe Wolstenholme (Swing), Gillian Forde (Alternate Miss Hedge/Understudy Margaret/Ray), Brian James Leys (Understudy Jamie’s Dad/Drag Queens).
Producer Nica Burns added: “We are delighted that Katy Brand will be joining the cast as Miss Hedge and Rufus Hound as Hugo/Loco Chanelle. They will both bring their own incredible talent to their roles and make them their own.”
Now in its third year in the West End, the multi-award winning show which was originally only planned as a limited season at the Apollo Theatre, is currently booking up to 29 August 2002. A UK touring production launched in Sheffield earlier this month starring Layton Williams. Shane Richie, Shoba Gulati and George Sampson.
Written by Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae, the show is directed by Jonathan Butterell, who also came up with the original idea for the show. The crowd-pleasing show has collected eight major theatre awards to date.
The production’s creative team includes designer Anna Fleischle, choreographer Kate Prince, musical director Theo Jamieson, lighting designer Lucy Carter, sound designer Paul Groothuis and casting director Will Burton.
The Sheffield Theatres production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is produced in the West End by Nica Burns, Ian Osborne, Paula Marie Black, Teresa and Craig Beech.
The movie version of the musical featuring Max Harwood in his professional debut as Jamie New is scheduled for release in October. The film stars Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant as Loco Chanelle, award-winning former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire as Margaret New, award-winning actress and writer Sharon Horgan as Miss Hedge and Coronation Street’s Shobna Gulati reprising her West End performance as Ray.
