Samantha Barks and Simon Lipkin to star in virtual version of First Date

Samantha Barks and Simon Lipkin will take the lead in a virtual production of the Broadway musical First Date next month.

Presented by Lambert Jackson Productions and Crazy Coqs, the production will be filmed at London’s Crazy Coqs and will be made available for streaming on 22, 23 and 24 October 2020 at 7.30pm.

Due to take on the role of Elsa in the eagerly-anticipated West End production of Frozen, Barks (Pretty Woman, Chicago and Broadway) will star opposite Lipkin (Nativity! The Musical, Hammersmith Apollo and UK tour, Honeymoon in Vegas, London Palladium) in the New York-set tale of modern dating.

The cast will also feature: Oscar Conlon-Morrey (Only Fools and Horses The Musical, Theatre Royal Haymarket, Nativity! The Musical, Hammersmith Apollo and UK tour); Rufus Kampa (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ – The Musical, Ambassadors Theatre, Goodnight Mister Tom, Southwark Playhouse); Nicholas McLean (Wicked, Apollo Victoria, Avenue Q UK tour); and Danielle Steers (Sweet Charity, Donmar Warehouse, Bat Out of Hell, Dominion Theatre, London Coliseum and UK tour).

Director and videographer Dean Johnson will head the creative team of musical supervisor Adam Hoskins and musical director Josh Winstone.

Featuring a book by Austin Winsberg and music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, the contemporary rock-flavoured First Dates premiered in Seattle in 2012 before arriving on Broadway in 2013. The musical comedy was previously seen in London at the first MTFestUK festival of new musicals at The Other Palace in 2019. The semi-staged production starred Liam Doyle and Sophie Isaacs.
