The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and UK Theatre have updated their See It Safely Scheme to include a request to theatregoers to ‘play their part in ensuring theatres continue to be safe environments’ by wearing face coverings when visiting venues.
While noting that current UK Government legislation only covers the enforcement of mask wearing on public transport and in retail establishments, SOLT and UK Theatres are appealing to ticketholders to do all they can to ensure theatres are able to remain open to full houses over the financially-crucial festive period.
Developed by SOLT and UK Theatre, the See It Safely scheme supports theatres by providing a toolkit along with practical help and training to ensure venues are following the latest Covid-secure guidelines.
Theatres taking part display the See It Safely mark to ensure theatregoers can be confident that all correct safety measures are in place.
See it Safely measures include enhanced cleaning, contactless ticketing and security checks, face coverings and the ability to exchange tickets if unable to attend due to Covid. In line with the Health Secretary’s latest recommendations, audience members are also encouraged to take a rapid lateral flow test before attending a performance.
Without legal protection to make face-coverings mandatory for entry, individual venues will make their own decisions on face coverings as a condition of entry. Theatregoers are being asked to respect Front of House staff who will be tasked with trying to enforce each venue’s policy.
