The broadcast premieres of Matthew Bourne’s 2018 re-imagined version of his innovative Swan Lake and last year’s critically acclaimed Romeo and Juliet have been announced as part of New Adventures’ newly-launched programme, A Festival Of Classics.
Filmed live at Sadler’s Wells during the 2018/2019 tour, the 21st century version of Bourne’s convention-bending version of the classic ballet Swan Lake will be screened on Sky Arts on Sunday (19 April 2020) at 8pm followed by Romeo and Juliet a week later (26 April at 8pm). The passionate and contemporary re-working of the classic love story created by Bourne and the New Adventures artistic team was filmed live at Sadler’s Wells in August 2019.
The two broadcast premieres will be followed by the re-screening of the multi-award-winning dance thriller The Car Man on Sky Arts on 3 May at 8pm. The Car Man was filmed live at Sadler’s Wells in 2015.
All three productions were filmed in collaboration with Sky Arts and More2Screen, and the films were produced by Lucie Conrad for Illuminations and directed by Ross MacGibbon.
In addition to the broadcasts the company’s online programming Reel Adventures is offering a different activity every day of the week – Motivational Mondays, Tune in Tuesdays, Pro Wednesdays, Vintage Adventures, Feature Fridays, Workshop Weekends and Sunday Sessions.
The programming includes a live company class once a week led by New Adventures artists and open to everyone; creative tasks for children: live Q &As; as well as access to behind the scenes footage and rarely seen treasures from the New Adventures archive curated and introduced by Matthew Bourne.
