US stage and screen stars Skylar Astin and Sarah Hyland will make their West End debuts in the multi-award-winning Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club next month.
Best known for playing Jesse Swanson in the first two Pitch Perfect films and originating the role of Georg Zirschnitz in Spring Awakening on Broadway, Astin (Rent, Into the Woods, Hollywood Bowl, Little Shop of Horrors, Broadway) will play The Emcee with award-winning Modern Family star Hyland (The Great Gatsby, Grey Gardens, Broadway) will step into the role of Sally Bowles. Both actors will join the hit production from 21 September with Astin’s final performance scheduled for 12 December this year and Hyland taking her final bow on 23 January 2027.
The other new additions to the cast will be Ronan Burns (Matilda the Musical, Cambridge Theatre, Grease, Dominion Theatre) as Ernst Ludwig and Lindsay Atherton (Top Hat, Chichester Festival Theatre, Sinatra, Birmingham Rep) as Fraulein Kost/Fritzie, with Lily Frances, Peter Houston, Samuel How, Bailey Johnson, Ellie Mitchell, Kirsty Anne Shaw, Natasha Wilde and Nicky Wong Rush.
They will join Baker Mukasa (The Comedy of Errors, RSC, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Aldwych Theatre) as Clifford Bradshaw, Ruthie Henshall (She Loves Me, Savoy Theatre, Chicago, West End/Broadway) as Fraulein Schneider and Robert Hands (Come From Away, Phoenix Theatre, Mrs Henderson Presents, Noël Coward Theatre) as Herr Schultz.
The cast is completed by Joe Atkinson, Xavion Campbell-Brown, Olivia-Rose Deer, Anya Ferdinand, Danny Fogarty, Adrian Grove and Eva-Rose Tanaka.
The Prologue Company is made up of Isobel Bates, Rachel Benson, Ami Benton, Jonathan Charles, Shanelle Clemenson, Andrew Linnie, Zara Liu, Dak Mashava, Brian James O’Sullivan, Jack William Parry and Shiho Yokoyama.
Currently booking up to 18 September 2027, Cabaret has now passed the milestone of 1,900 performances, making it the longest-running production of the musical in West End history. This November marks the 60th anniversary of the show’s original opening on Broadway on 20 November 1966 and the fifth anniversary of this current award-winning production, which opened in the West End on 15 November 2021. A celebration will be held at the Kit Kat Club on 20 November to mark the occasion.
Presented by Ambassador Theatre Group and Underbelly, the production won a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards and three prestigious Critics Circle Awards.
Director Rebecca Frecknall heads a creative team that includes set and costume designer Tom Scutt and choreographer Julia Cheng. Musical supervision is by Jennifer Whyte, with musical direction by Ben Ferguson, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster. The casting director is Stuart Burt, the associate director and prologue director is Jordan Fein and the prologue composer and musical director is Angus MacRae.
Based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 semi-autobiographical book Goodbye to Berlin and the stage adaptation I Am a Camera by playwright and director John Van Druten, Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
