Laura Michelle Kelly joins the line-up for the concert Sondheim: Inside Out at the Southbank Centre, London
An impressive line-up of performers will join conductor Keith Lockhart and the BBC Concert Orchestra for Sondheim: Inside Out, showcasing the life and music of lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim as part of Southbank Centre’s The Rest Is Noise Festival on Sunday, 10 November.
Renowned Sondheim interpreter and director of the much-acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production of Merrily We Roll Along, Maria Friedman is joined by American actress Kim Criswell, Laura Michelle Kelly (Olivier Award-winner in 2005 for Mary Poppins), actor Michael Xavier (recently seen as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) and winner of the 2013 Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year Competition, Turlough Convery, for a concert that brings together hits from Sondheim’s greatest shows including Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George. Also part of the evening will be the Maida Vale Singers.
The piece is curated by actor, singer and theatre director Julia McKenzie, while Jonathan Butterell directs. Sondheim: Inside Out will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Friday, 20 December at 2pm.
