The music that brought light to some of Europe’s darkest hours will be celebrated at London’s St James Theatre Studio on 16 May.
A Song Goes Round the World is a musical journey that will take its audience from the Russian cabaret of Alexander Vertinsky, to the heart-wrenching theatrics of France’s Edith Piaf, combined with a little of the early 1930s music favoured by the German Comedian Harmonists group.
One of the stars of the popular BBC4 comedy series The Detectorists, Daniel Donskoy, will take centrestage to perform German, Yiddish, French and Russian chansons accompanied by Inga Davis-Rutter (musical director of You Won’t Succeed on Broadway Without Any Jews) and her trio.
A Song Goes Round the World is developed by Donskoy and Davis-Rutter, the show will also be produced by Donskoy for Collaborative Artists Ltd.
